In Elizabethan age,the form sonnet was practised intensely. The subtitle of this sonnet is 'I Wrote Her Name'.
As it's fact that most of the literature has been composed in the world about three major subjects Love,Life & Death. This sonnet also glorifies Love & also Permanence of litterateur.
Poetry defers from prose mainly because of it's musicality. The sonnet One Day I Wrote Her Name is rich in musicality.there is a remarkable use of alliteration.

Waves....Washed
Payne....Pray
Dy...Day...etc....

This is a sonnet & hence decided into 14 lines in two parts-Octave & Setset.
The poet has made use of various words like Noun, Adjective, Verb etc....

Day,Name,Waves,Hand etc..Noun
Second, Glorious etc...Adjective
Wrote,Made,Die... etc..Verb

Semantic level of the poetry-
The soul of poetry shows the content & message of the poem.Spenser writes in this beautiful poem that he wrote his be lover's name upon the strand but it was washed away by the waves.he tried again with a second hand but the tide removed it.then his beloved commented that he was trying to make a mortal thing immortal & so naturally he would fail.
Later the poet thought to write her name or rather poetry on her would make her immortal as well as famous everyone even in the heaven. The poet highlights the fact that true love & literature are permanent & in this way their love will remain forever,in the form of poems he wrote about her.
In only 14 lines means a structure of sonnet poet mention that love between he & his beloved is immortal because the poet write poetry on her beloved & therefore poet says that literature is also immortal.

Thank You.
